How will I evaluate students on this inquiry based vocabulary unit?
Throughout the course of this unit, students will be assessed formally and informally. I will be documenting whether students are using the vocabulary that they are learning through this project in spontaneous conversation through the use of anecdotal records. I will also be documenting whether and how often students are referring back to their own pages as well as the pages of their classmates when they forget the meaning of a vocabulary word that one of the students in our class has studied. This will give me an idea of whether students are spontaneously carrying over information that we are working on in our inquiry project to their daily lives and whether they are seeking out information about vocabulary words that they don't know or can't remember. Also, students will be responsible for teaching the signs for new vocabulary words to their classmates in their general education classes. This means that they need to be prepared to explain the meaning of the vocabulary word to their peers if anyone in their class does not understand.
